Republic P-47 Thunderbolt Air Freshener
This car air freshener is inspired by the American Republic P-47 Thunderbolt fighter plane, nicknamed Hun Hunter XVI, which became a part of World War II aviation history.
The aircraft with this livery belonged to Lieutenant Colonel Gilbert Waymond, commander of the 65th Fighter Squadron, 57th Fighter Group, of the U.S. Air Force. During the war, he flew 153 combat missions and saw action in North Africa and Italy. The name Hun Hunter accompanied his aircraft throughout his service, and the Roman numeral XVI indicated that it was the sixteenth aircraft in that series. For his combat service, Wymaund was awarded the Silver Star.
A distinctive feature of the Hun Hunter XVI was the striking emblem of a red eagle wearing aviator goggles, painted on the silver engine cowling. It is this very design that is reproduced on the air freshener. The historic livery has been preserved thanks to a restored P-47D, which was on display at the Tennessee Museum of Aviation and participated in air shows.
The air freshener is shaped like the front section of an aircraft engine with a four-bladed propeller. It attaches to the car’s air vent, and the propeller spins as air flows through it. Inside is a replaceable fragrance cartridge that can be swapped out by disassembling the housing. This is an unusual car accessory that combines a pleasant scent with the history of a legendary fighter plane.
