History of the actual aircraft
The Boeing 767-383ER with factory number 24318 was delivered to Scandinavian Airlines on March 29, 1989, and was originally registered in Sweden as SE-DKO. In January 1994, the aircraft was re-registered in Norway as LN-RCH, under which it continued to fly as part of the SAS fleet
In keeping with the Scandinavian airline’s tradition, the aircraft was given the name Ingegerd Viking. SAS used names associated with Scandinavian history and the Viking heritage to create a distinctive identity for its fleet.
The Boeing 767-300ER was one of SAS’s key long-haul aircraft in the 1990s. Thanks to its two powerful Pratt & Whitney PW4000 engines, spacious passenger cabin, and long range, this model was used for transatlantic and intercontinental flights.
In 2004, LN-RCH was retired from SAS, but its aviation history did not end there. The aircraft was transferred to the Portuguese airline EuroAtlantic Airways, where it was registered as CS-TLO. Over the next few years, it was operated by various carriers, including on charter flights.
In 2017, the aircraft was transferred to the American company Atlas Air, and in 2018, it was converted from a passenger Boeing 767-300ER to a cargo Boeing 767-300BDSF. Thus, the aircraft, which began its career as an SAS passenger jet, was given a second life in cargo aviation.
