Boeing 737-400 airplane poster
The 737-400 modification was developed in 1985 and was intended to fill the gap between the Boeing 737-300 and 757-200. The modification competed with the Airbus A320 and McDonnell Douglas MD-80 as it replaced the previously competing 727-200. Compared to the 737-300, it was lengthened by 3.45 meters and could carry up to 168 passengers. A baffle was installed to prevent the tail from hitting the runway. The wing spars were reinforced. The first aircraft was shown on January 26, 1988, the first flight took place on February 19, 1988.
