The Supermarine Spitfire is an undisputed legend of British aviation, a symbol of courage and technical excellence that played a decisive role in the air battles of World War II. This RAF fighter aircraft became a key player in the Battle of Britain, and later in the liberation of Europe from Nazism. Thanks to its aerodynamic shapes, incredible maneuverability and technical reliability, the Spitfire became a favorite of pilots and an icon of the era. About 70 aircraft are still airworthy, continuing to inspire new generations.
The badge you are holding in your hands is made from the upper skin of the right aileron of the Spitfire T9 PV202/G-CCCA aircraft, removed during a major overhaul in 2022. This aircraft was built in the LF.IXc modification and participated in numerous combat operations throughout Europe. Its flight history includes numerous sorties in support of Allied forces in the decisive campaigns of the war. After its combat career, it was converted into a two-seat T9 trainer and served with the Irish Air Corps in the early 1950s.
Spitfire PV202 later passed into the hands of private collectors, and in the 2000s was restored by the Aircraft Restoration Company. After extensive restoration, the aircraft took to the skies again under the registration G-CCCA. It is now owned by Aerial Collective and based at the famous Duxford airfield in the UK.
